The DMU Jessup Moot Court Team is looking to recruit for their Jessup2023 Team. The ideal candidate(s) will:

• Have an interest in developing their lawyering skills beyond an academic setting.

• Have good command of the English language (written and oral).

• Be willing to commit 20-30hrs/wk. of time between September 2022 to March 2023.

• Have strong sense of responsibility and team spirit

赛事简介

杰赛普国际法模拟法庭大赛(Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition )是目前规模最大、历史最悠久的国际专业性辩论赛，被誉为国际法学界的“奥林匹克竞赛”，在全球享有极高的认可度。自1959年举办以来，每年均有100多个国家的900余所大学参赛，争夺前往华盛顿参加全球总决赛的出线名额。参加杰赛普国际法模拟法庭大赛是提高法律研究、写作、口头表达技能的最有效方式之一，同时还能培养国际法方面的知识。

Jessup采用海牙国际法院（International Court of Justice）的诉讼模式，要求各参赛队伍充分研究案例（Compromis），代表原告国与被告国写作起诉状与答辩状（Memorial），并就该案件进行口头答辩（Oral Presentation）。

JessupXPJ官方网站代表队成立于2004年，拥有丰富的参赛经验。近几年来，代表队获得Jessup2022全国二等奖、Jessup2021全国三等奖等佳绩。在队伍十几年的不断成长中，Jessup赛队形成了丰富的校友资源，往届优秀队员前往中国政法大学、新加坡国立大学等国内外名校继续深造。

Jessup is the world’s largest moot court competition, with participants from roughly 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. The Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is an advocacy competition for law students.

Teams of law students compete against one another through the presentation of oral and written pleadings to address timely issues concerning public international law in the context of a hypothetical legal dispute between nations.

Participants will gain the knowledge and practical experiences of writing legal pleadings and presenting them before a panel of international judges.

Established in 2004, the Dalian Maritime University Law School Jessup Moot Court Team (DMU Jessup Team) has a long-standing history within DMU. More recently, the DMU Jessup Team was able to win the national second and third prize in the Jessup2022 and Jessup2021 Competition respectively. Furthermore, the team has an active alumni group, representing students in various top international and domestic law schools.

锻炼写作能力

培养法律技能

进行文书写作的过程中，需要队员进行大量的法律检索，其中包括国际公约、案例、学者文章等，队员的英文法律检索能力能得到充分的提高。同时在教练的指导下，队员们能够学习到实用的法律文书写作技能，包括法律文书的句子结构、行文结构、脚注使用等实用技巧。从最初的小白逐渐熟习英文法律文书的写作方式，队员们水平得到飞跃式提升。

Throughout the entirety of the Competition (September – February) team members will be taught and required to conduct independent legal research and analysis on international cases, laws and conventions, scholarly writings, etc.

Furthermore, group-based and individual specific training will be provided by the Coaching Staff (Max) on issue analysis, legal and persuasive writing. Coaching sessions will provide students with an in-depth understanding of professional writing, starting all the way from drafting proper topic sentences, paragraph construction, and different forms of citations.

训练临场反应

队员们在Oral Round需要进行针对案件的presentation，同时需要随时应对法官提出的问题。在前期的口头稿准备、模拟训练以及最后的正式比赛中，队员们的口语水平能够得到充分的锻炼和提高。面对法官的提问，队员们从慌张到冷静应对，获得表达能力和应变能力的双重提升。

For the competition, team members will be taught and coached on how to present strong oral arguments and oral advocacy techniques for engaging judges. During the Oral Rounds, team members will be required to make their legal claims under strict time restrictions, while answering questions from various styles of judges. Students should use this as an excellent opportunity to learn how to eloquently answer legal questions, how to roadmap their arguments, how to properly address the court in a professional setting, and adjusting their oral advocacy skills based on various situations.

Jessup聚焦国际法领域的热点，在备赛的过程中，队员们能够夯实自己的国际法知识，拓宽对于国际法的认识。Jessup作为一项国际赛事，队员们能够在比赛过程中与国内外名校的同学们同台竞技，收获一段难忘的经历。于此同时，通过参加Jessup，同学们可以丰富个人履历，塑造个人优势。

The annual Jessup Problem is designed to integrate cutting edge avant-garde and mostly unresolved legal issues surrounding international law. They involve legal issues never been resolved by the International Court of Justice. Moreover, Jessup’s legal issues are interwoven with several other topics of law, such as environmental law (2012-13), intellectual property (2020-21), and maritime laws (2013-14)

Jessup不是一个人的战斗，最终的成果来源于每一位队员的努力。周末在法学楼一起讨论memo写作，文件整合时的分工与协作，练习oral时队友们的互相支持，每一次的聚餐，都成了Jessup团队的共同回忆。在长时间的磨合中，我们不仅摸索到合作的方法，也收获了同甘共苦的友情。

Jessup is not a one-person sport, the final result depends on the input and hard work of every member. Throughout the competition, members will be working extremely close on items such as completing the various memo drafts, legal citations, and preparations for the oral rounds. The bonds of friendship developed through overcoming the challenges of Jessup lasts more than just the competition itself.
